The museum “700 Years — Landskrona, Nevskoye Ustye, Nyenskans”

The museum “700 Years — Landskrona, Nevskoye Ustye, Nyenskans” is among the youngest and dynamically developing museums of St. Petersburg. Museum collections are sure not to be compared with ones of the leading city museums. However, its exhibits are proud of their unique nature - the Museum offers historical material dated pre-Petersburg periods in the past of Nevsky land.

The Museum exhibits help to break a well-known stereotype: the place where the young capital of the Russian empire appeared had been desert and desolate. So, our visitors have got an access to the 400 year pre-Petersburg history of the Neva river and the Okhta source. The historical documents, maps, materials of archeological digs in the territory of the present Petrozavod are at the heart of the Museum.

Our Museum was founded at the end of May, 2003 during the celebration of the 300-year anniversary of St. Petersburg thanks to the holding Okhta Group, District-700 administration and group of companies MediaProm.

The museum “700 Years — Landskrona, Nevskoye Ustye, Nyenskans” is a historical-archeological museum. Archeological finds of the early 90ths of the 20th century during the investigation of the Okhta river, as well as historical documents, plans and maps dated XVII—XVII centuries are in the basis of the Museum collections.

They prove the existence of the Russian and Sweden settlements and fortresses in prinevsky territories, exactly, in the source of the Okhta river. Besides, the Museum has a reproduction of a part of the archeological excavation together with diaram-reconstruction of the Sweden fortress Nyenskans and town Nyen. The exhibitions display the reconstructed armament of the Russian and Sweden soldiers of the period when Lanskrona was seized.

We are convinced that people can understand their present and their past much better when they are aware of their history, having good understanding of their past.

With this objective we are interested in making the Museum more popular - we are conducting thematic exhibitions, lectures, seminars. As well, the Museum hosts the Children Historical Club.

To a wide extent, the Museum is to promote social heritage of Russia, create favourable climate for intellectual development of the society, strengthen international cultural cooperation due to relations with experts and companies from the Baltic countries.

The museum “700 Years — Landskrona, Nevskoye Ustye, Nyenskans” is located at: 2, Krasnogvardeiskaya sq. The choice of place made initiators found a Museum at the point where the Okhta flows into the Neva river, in the territory of Petrozavod, District 700 at present. According to plans and maps there were fortresses Landskrona and Nyenskans together with Russian settlement Nevskoye ustye.

The Museum was founded thanks to the initiative of Dmitry Kiselev, Vice Chairman of the Management Board of OOO Okhta Group, and the District 700 administration. General Consulate of Sweden in St. Petersburg supports the Museum. Victoria, Crown Princess of Sweden, did the Museum a special favour by visiting the exhibition. She showed much interest to the Museum collections.

Moreover, the Museum is in charge of conducting historical exhibitions, lectures, and conferences.
