The First scientific workshop "Archeology of St. Petersburg".

Workshop goals: sharing of information related to new researches and discoveries, popularization of the archeological heritage of St. Petersburg.

Archeologists, historians, all those who are interested in archeological, historical and cultural problems are kindly welcome.

Address: The Museum “700 Years - Landskrona, Nevskoye Ustye, Nyenskans”, Askold Business Center, 2 Krasnogvardeiskaya square.

The exhibition will show archeological finds of St. Petersburg archeological expedition in 2003, 2004 in the Ekateringofsky palace, palace of the Peter 1 in Dalnye Dubki, as well as the diggings of the ancient burial ground of XIV –XVII ââ. at Fontanka (modern territory of the Sheremetievsky palace).
Finds collected in the course of the expedition of the State Hermitage (yards of the Winter Palace).

International festival of new technologies in contemporary art
in honor of the 300-year anniversary of St. Petersburg

1-15 October, 2003




The festival is aimed at a number of international projects with respect to study and use of new technologies in contemporary art of Russia. For last years Russian artists are invited to the foreign institutions in order to adopt new technologies. The festival shows the outcomes of these activities by demonstrating both Russian and overseas participants equally.

Core areas of activities:
  • Hand-made paper. Information source - institutions of Finland.
  • Technology of prints. Information source - institutions of Sweden.
  • Computer and video arts. Finland, Sweden, Austria.


    Festival components:
  • exhibition of contemporary prints and photography, authors books, hand-made paper works, computer and video works;
  • demonstration master-classes of prints, hand-made paper, video art focusing on the origin of St. Petersburg related to the fortresses Nyenskans and Kronshdadt;
  • paper ball;
  • panel discussion of the problems of contemporary arts in Russia;
  • competition of works.

    Time: 1-15 October, 2003

    Place: Showroom of the Union of artists of Russia at Okhta, the museum “700 Years - Landskrona, Nevskoye Ustye, Nyenskans”, Kronshdadt.

    Program of the festival:
    1. Exhibition of contemporary prints and photography, authors books, hand-made paper works, computer and video works. The exhibition is based on the collections of joint workshops as well as their outcomes in Finland, Sweden, Austria and Russia within 1997 - 2002.
    2. Prints, paper and video master-classes.
    Prints master-class with the use of plotter machine brought from Sweden. Experts from Stockholm Gunnar Nels and Pontus Raud are conducting the classes. Harry Leppanen (Finland) is in charge of paper master-class.
    Video art master-class is conducted by Tomi Shnider, Kark-Hynts Shtrel (Austria) together with the students of St. Petersburg Institute of Technology and Design.
    3. Paper ball.
    The project follows the traditions of paper balls of early 20th century when there were paper balls of symbolist writers and artists. Participants of the modern ball are Russian and foreign artists.
    4. Panel discussion of the problems of contemporary art in Russia. Panel discussion objective is to highlight key issues in the contemporary art of Russia in the light of global changes, define potentials in reaching technological support, financing, mass media, social status of an artist. Êðóãëûé ñòîë ïî ïðîáëåìàì ñîâðåìåííîãî èñêóññòâà â Ðîññèè.
    5. Works competition is to be juried by professionals and audience. Winners are awarded with prizes and letters of award.
