exhibition of works made by the students of “Petersburg photo
workshops” is a creative report for the whole training period. The
exhibition called “Shtudia” is scheduled to take place annually. Its
current name “Free theme” resulted from a variety of areas and themes,
different focus of seeing and creating works. Artists offer their most
interesting works. Some of them highlight unique skills of photographers
at this early stage. Students tended to use various printing and
photography techniques such as wet printing, film duplicating, multiple
toning, solarization, photography with multi optical exposure, works in
light and dark colorings. The exhibition shows the works of
those photographers who proved themselves as photo artists. They have
already organized a number of personal exhibitions and participated in
Russian and international exhibitions more than once. And also, there
are works of beginners in photography. Although the school is aimed at
classic black-and-white photography the exhibition presents color works.
The school introduces general ideas of color photography. This line

city: Dmitry Konradt, Oleg Kaplan, Alexandr Petrosian. State Centre of Photography 35 Bolshaya Morskaya, St. Petersburg Phone: +7(812)314 1214, Fax: +7(812)314 6184 e-mail: press@ncprf@org

www.klip.spb.ru “Petersburg photo workshops” is an educational project developed by the State Centre of Photography.
St. Petersburg school of black-and-white photography keeps up the
traditions from generation to generation. State Centre of Photography
has been working over the non-profit educational project “Baltiiskaya
photo school” for more than six years already. Young gifted
photographers who have already chosen their personal line in this art
are among the students involved in the project. Master classes conducted
by Russian and foreign artists are free for them. As well, the students
take part in the exhibition projects of the Center. Prospective
students take a competitive entrance examination once two years.
With the objective to stimulate teaching photography techniques in the
framework of the project “Baltiiskaya photo school” a new educational
project “Petersburg photo schools” was launched by State Centre of
Photography in the Fall, 2004. Besides “Baltiiskaya photo school”, “Petersburg photo schools” project includes educational programs teaching

enter the course of advertising photography or take part in the program
“Baltiiskaya photo school”. Nowadays photography sounds
interesting not only for art critics, museum and gallery supervisors,
professional photo artists but for those who are just interested in
photography. First in St. Petersburg “Lectures on History and
