SHTUDIA-2005 St. Petersburg school of black-and-white photography keeps up the traditions from generation to generation. With the objective of transmitting photographic traditions in Autumn, 2004 the State Centre of photography cooperated with Klip school and studio to develop a new educational project named “Petersburg photo workshops”. The project includes a number of parts: photo workshop teaching theory of black-and-white photography and training, programs of master-classes with key photo artists of our city, lectures on photographic art for all-comers. Training schedule has two core lines: course of analogue black-and-white and color photography; course of digital photography. The exhibition of works made by the students of “Petersburg photo workshops” is a creative report for the whole training period. The exhibition called “Shtudia” is scheduled to take place annually. Its current name “Free theme” resulted from a variety of areas and themes, different focus of seeing and creating works. Artists offer their most interesting works. Some of them highlight unique skills of photographers at this early stage. Students tended to use various printing and photography techniques such as wet printing, film duplicating, multiple toning, solarization, photography with multi optical exposure, works in light and dark colorings. The exhibition shows the works of those photographers who proved themselves as photo artists. They have already organized a number of personal exhibitions and participated in Russian and international exhibitions more than once. And also, there are works of beginners in photography. Although the school is aimed at classic black-and-white photography the exhibition presents color works. The school introduces general ideas of color photography. This line will get a shot in the arm in the workshops of famous artists of our city: Dmitry Konradt, Oleg Kaplan, Alexandr Petrosian. St. Petersburg school of black-and-white photography keeps up the traditions from generation to generation. State Centre of Photography has been working over the non-profit educational project “Baltiiskaya photo school” for more than six years already. Young gifted photographers who have already chosen their personal line in this art are among the students involved in the project. Master classes conducted by Russian and foreign artists are free for them. As well, the students take part in the exhibition projects of the Center. Prospective students take a competitive entrance examination once two years. With the objective to stimulate teaching photography techniques in the framework of the project “Baltiiskaya photo school” a new educational project “Petersburg photo schools” was launched by State Centre of Photography in the Fall, 2004. Besides “Baltiiskaya photo school”, “Petersburg photo schools” project includes educational programs teaching theory, as well as process-oriented training, and International Summer Photo School, “Lectures on Photography Arts” for all comers. Educational program “Petersburg photo schools” is aimed at teaching theory and practical training of photography as a creative kind of art. The schedule covers the courses of analogue black-and-white and color photography (various levels), course of digital photography. The Photo School is equipped with an excellent lab for practical exercises when making black-and-white photography as well as up-to-date computer lab for conducting a course of digital photography. Master- classes of well-known artists are offered every week. They form an exclusive part of the project “Petersburg photo schools”. Master-classes provide with an opportunity to be taught and evaluated by experts whose opinion is worth knowing. The Photo School invited Russian and foreign photographers, experts. Igor Lebedev, Andrey Chezhin, Alexandr Kitaev, Ludmila Tabolina, Euvgeny Mokhorev, Maria Snigirevskaya, Nadezhda Kuznetsova and others have already participated in the project. In the course of studies students can have individual consultations given by the experts of Centre of Photography, have an access to a library, computer data base, participate in exhibition projects of the Centre, international and Russian competitions and festivals. Young photographers who finished the education program “Petersburg photo schools” have a chance to continue their creative growth in one of the “Author’s work shops”. They have to choose a famous artist to work with and a photography line they would like to follow. Either they can enter the course of advertising photography or take part in the program “Baltiiskaya photo school”. Nowadays photography sounds interesting not only for art critics, museum and gallery supervisors, professional photo artists but for those who are just interested in photography. First in St. Petersburg “Lectures on History and Photography” are about to start. The course is supposed to achieve rather wide audience. It consists of fourteen lectures which are conducted twice a month. “Lectures on History and Photography” contain speaking engagements of experts in History of Arts, History and Theory of Photography, ones of museum and galleries supervisors, famous Russian and foreign photographers and other specialists who can cover the issues of photography.
